Effects of Gamma Radiation on marketing Conditions for Danner and Earlidown Strawberries

Abstract
Effects of gamma radiation on the preservabilities of strawberries under marketing conditions were investigated using two varieties, Danner and Earlidown. These varieties were irradiated with 100Kr, 200Kr, 300Kr, and 400Kr of gamma ray under various conditions and stored at room temperature. The results obtained were summarized as follows;
1) In low quality Danner, no distinct differences an preservabilities were observed between control and treated groups without regard to the dosages applied. In high quality, however, approximately 20.5% of them was decayed in 2 days after irradiation with 300Kr.
2) 27.8% of low quality Earlidown was decayed in 3 days after irradiation with 200Kr, arid in high quality 28.4% in 4 days.
3) The value of saccharimeter both in controls and treated groups tended to decrease with the increase of dosage and extension of storing period.
4) Changes of flavour and taste both in controls and treated groups were hardly recognizable. The appearance and texture were changed gradually with the increase of dosage, but the quality was not inferior to the normal market fruits.
